What changed since 2024

On January 16, 2025, Petroglyph Development Group closed its purchase of Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria from Great Canadian. Petroglyph is wholly owned by Snuneymuxw First Nation. The two sales had been announced on June 24 and September 10, 2024. In Petroglyph's own words, "all profits go back to the Nation".

Petroglyph took over Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam on May 5, 2026, under a sale first announced on December 19, 2025. The casino keeps the Great Canadian name under a limited licence. Since June 16, 2026, River Rock Casino Resort has been owned by a partnership of Petroglyph and Musqueam Capital Corp, of the Musqueam Indian Band.

Two more sales have been agreed. Great Canadian agreed to sell the casino portion of Hastings to Tsleil-Waututh Nation, with a definitive agreement on November 7, 2025. On March 9, 2026, it agreed to sell Elements Casino Surrey to SE-MI-AH-MU Development Corporation of Semiahmoo First Nation. Each step, with its date, is set out in the change log.

The full change log

What stays the same on the floor

For a guest, the rules on the floor do not change with the owner. BCLC conducts and manages casino gambling for the province in all sixteen rooms, and private companies run them. The page on what BCLC does sets out that role.

Some entry rules apply everywhere. Guests must be 19 or older, and since June 2023 everyone shows government-issued photo ID at the door, checked against the self-exclusion list.

Fifteen of the sixteen casinos name Encore Rewards, the same players' card; RimRock Casino does not describe one. A GameSense Advisor is available in every casino in British Columbia for anyone harmed by gambling.

Playing online in BC

Online gambling in British Columbia follows the same age rule as casinos: players must be 19 or older. PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in the province. On August 28, 2026, the IGCO said that every other online gambling site letting BC players in operates illegally in the province.

This guide carries paid links, marked Ad, on its home page only. They lead to a private online casino. It is not PlayNow, and it is not run or licensed by the province. A BC resident who plays there has none of the provincial protections: PlayNow limits and Game Break do not apply. Complaints about it cannot go to the IGCO.

The site earns a commission from these links, and the partner can change. The Online in BC page sets out these points in one place.
